Every LED install is only as good as the tools used to do the job. Whether you're fitting kitchen lighting, retail displays, or commercial units, having the right kit can save hours on site and deliver a cleaner, more professional finish. Here are 5 essential tools for trade installers working with LED strip lighting.
1. Tape Measure & Laser Level
Accurate measurement is key for profile alignment and avoiding wasted lengths of LED strip. A laser level is especially useful for under-cabinet runs or long ceiling installs where straight lines matter.
2. Solderless Clip Connectors
These are a lifesaver for quick joins or turns without breaking out the soldering iron. Make sure the clips match your strip width (e.g. 8mm or 10mm) and voltage. For added reliability, choose locking connectors or waterproof versions for IP-rated installs.
3. Mounting Accessories
Clips, brackets, and double-sided adhesive can all make mounting LED strips and aluminium profiles easier. For recessed profiles, use the correct spring clips to ensure a flush, secure fit.
4. Multimeter or Driver Tester
Quickly confirm voltage output from your driver and check continuity along longer runs. This is especially useful for troubleshooting flickers, dimming or full LED failures during testing.
5. Heat Gun & Cable Management Tools
Use a heat gun to shrink-seal connections or waterproof ends. And don’t forget cable clips, trunking, or mini conduit for keeping wiring clean and secure — especially on visible installs.
