Whether you're lighting a kitchen, retail display or commercial workspace, the colour temperature of your LED lighting can completely change the look and feel of a space. Here's how to pick the right one for your next job.
What Is LED Colour Temperature?
Colour temperature is measured in Kelvins (K) and refers to how warm or cool the light appears. Lower values (like 2700K or 3000K) give off a warm, yellowish glow. Higher values (like 6000K) create a cool, bright white light with a more clinical feel.
2700K–3000K: Warm white – ideal for homes, hospitality and relaxed environments
4000K: Neutral white – balanced and versatile, often used in kitchens or retail
6000K+: Cool white – crisp and bright, great for task lighting or commercial installs
How to Choose Based on Space
Kitchens & Bathrooms
Use neutral (4000K) or cool white (6000K) to create a clean, bright environment. Cool white is especially effective for under-cabinet lighting where task visibility matters.
Retail & Commercial Spaces
Cool or daylight white (5000–6000K) is ideal for highlighting products and making the space feel fresh and modern. Warmer tones can be used for mood zones or softer sections.
Living Areas or Hospitality
Warm white (2700–3000K) creates a cosy, welcoming vibe — perfect for bars, restaurants or residential lounges.
What About Adjustable Colour Temperature?
Many modern LED strips and downlights offer CCT (Correlated Colour Temperature) adjustability, letting you fine-tune the light depending on time of day or client preference. Pair these with the right controller to switch between warm, neutral and cool whites.
